I created GreenHomeGuide to provide reliable advice, inspiration, and solutions to homeowners who want a healthier, greener home.

GreenHomeGuide is not just my business—it’s my passion. I deeply believe that in creating green (and greener) homes we can make a positive difference in our own lives and in the world.

The process of creating GreenHomeGuide began in early 2004 when I took a weekend course about straw-bale building put on by the California Straw Building Association (CASBA). That weekend I found 100 or so of the most passionate, articulate and enthusiastic architects, builders and homeowners I’ve ever encountered. This weekend course was my entree to a community that shared the big, elusive goal of growing green building beyond the dark green fringes and into the mainstream, where it would have much a bigger impact on our environment and health.

Through these conversations I envisioned a forum where green architects, builders, consultants and researchers could reach beyond their high-end, dark-green clients to share their advice and experiences with the much larger audience of homeowners and renters who wanted the benefits of a green home but could not spend as much time or money. So I began designing and building GreenHomeGuide.

I believe that while the 100-percent perfect green home solution does not exist, there are dozens of steps we can each take to feel better about the homes we live in. By choosing green alternatives to conventional building, cleaning, pest control and landscaping, we discover that we can have more, not less. Our homes can be better designed and more attractive; warmer and brighter in the winter and cooler in the summer. They can also offer us more of the well-being and comfort we need and seek. And with better homes, we move one step closer to creating a better planet.
