As a Certified Green Professional, I work with clients that are concerned with indoor air quality of their home. I assist them in specifying not only products that make for a better indoor living environment, but the environment as a whole.
We have worked on many LEED projects and NAHB residential and commercial projects specifying and designing the eco-friendly cabinetry for the projects. To date we have assisted on as many as 5 LEED commercial and 7 LEED residential projects as well as 12 NAHB residential projects.
Thom Knowles has been a CGP Certified Green Professional for over 3 years and has assiisted many homeowners and architects and builders through the trials of determining the correct materials to use, not only cabinetry but whole house systems. Thom attends most seminars and training that is made available to him to continue his education to be able to continue to help others down the road of Sustainable building.
We have always practiced in our facilities sustainability. It started with our suppliers and how we went about choosing our suppliers. We wanted to only buy wood that came from managed growth forest and that were sustainable. We understood that if we would only buy those type products and teach our competitors to do the same, our industry would be sustainable as well as the wood products we all used. I started to go to competitors and teach them how we had done it and it can of snowballed from there. I then started to teach builders the same sort of practices that we had learned and it simply has become just the way we do business. It is not new to us or the people I have worked with it is everyday life. That is the vision, mission and goal. We all can do it with out any extra effort if we just make it common practice.
