Koffka Phakos Design was founded in 2002 and offers complete architectural and interior design services. After completing architecture school, we worked as interns and then went on to senior positions at larger architecture firms for several years before starting our own practice. While our backgrounds and interests are varied, we share a systematic, disciplined approach throughout the process from design to construction.

In our work, we take many aspects and viewpoints into account beyond function and style. Some of these are urban context and climate, schedule and budget, environmental impact, and appropriate use of materials.

Many of our projects are alterations and additions to existing buildings. Koffka Phakos Design has had a sustainable approach to architecture since our founding in 2002. In one notable project, we designed an addition to the 1940s home of a family of artists. A new tower inserted into the courtyard affords views across the Sunset Park neighborhood while capturing ocean breezes and eliminating the need for air conditioning. Demolition was kept to a minimum and construction waste was recycled. Principals Cynthia Phakos and Adrian Koffka are both LEED Accredited Professionals.
