Architectural and Interior Design services (including LEED for Homes, Energy Star and EarthCraft House programs), residential performance assessment, retrofitting, and weatherization consulting, and behavior/use evaluations.

OffGrid Studio has designed buildings under several LEED rating systems and recently helped a small commercial project achieve LEED Gold. We have designed homes using the EarthCraft House rating systems as well as contributed to the creation of local sustainable building ordinance language for a major municipality. Our principal has written a substantial number of articles for the Home Depot Foundation's Sustainable Cities Institute website and continues to speak locally on the importance of incorporating sustainable strategies into housing, commercial development, and corporate and personal behavior.

M. Shane Totten, AIA, LEED AP (BD+C), has participated in USGBC training for residential design, completed the EarthCraft House Builder's Training, and teaches sustainability strategies and practices at a local Atlanta college of design. He assisted a local non-profit in creating an energy audit program wherein buildings and their occupants could be assessed for opportunities to improve their resource efficiency. Shane has recently completed training to become an Education Provider Reviewer for the USGBC.

We recognize any solution has the potential to be more than the mere sum of its parts. At OffGrid Studio we seek the means to realize that inherent potential for each of our endeavors. Our approach to providing you with a solution is to first fully understand the challenge and its context. Only then can we give you a solution we believe exceeds the sum of its parts.

We ask a lot of questions of our client, our design team members, and even the project site before we begin to formulate our solution for you. Drawing upon diverse and deep experience, OffGrid facilitates relationships with people, knowledge, and our environment as part of the solution-seeking and creation process. We believe the more informed we are in understanding you and your need, the more natural our solution will be for you, our society, and our world.
