GREENTHINC., PLLC is a registered Architectural firm in North Carolina and South Carolina and a Certified Small Business Enterprise (#23186) with the City of Charlotte, NC. Jim Kirby, Vice President, is a licensed architect in North Carolina and South Carolina. GREENTHINC operates out of its Mint Hill, North Carolina location.

GREENTHINC is a member firm of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), the US Green Building Council (USGBC), and Charlotte Chamber of Commerce. Jim chairs the AIA Charlotte Chapter Committee on The Environment (AIAC COTE) which is currently developing a 10 class
workshop series on the AIA-2030 partner program via the Architecture 2030 momentum developed by Ed Mazria. Jim also serves as the East Chapter Chamber liaison member for the GreenWorks committee within the Charlotte Chamber.

Jim’s career spans 24 years starting with ink-on-mylar drafting to large international development project management. Environmental building design, construction and operation is a passion of Jim’s and he is currently providing green building consulting services for the Charlotte Housing Authority on three residential tower projects totaling nearly 400,000sf. In addition to the Charlotte
Housing Authority consulting projects GREENTHINC is also serving a green building instruction position with Central Piedmont Community College and leads several green building consulting pursuits with developers, architects, engineers and builders throughout the region.

Able to bring diverse groups together over the common focus of sustainable design, construction, operations and address complex issues with clarity and order.

Recognized as a Green Business Leader with strengths in communicating architectural and engineering design integration, building operations, construction methods, life-cycle costing assessment, and green building
certification programs. Known for architectural community leadership and university student mentorship for upcoming leaders in sustainable design.

While at Perkins+Will, followed a natural progression into the Sustainable Design Leadership role after several years of demonstrated strength in project sustainable design. Held a leadership role in the development of the NC sustainability practice and sustainable strategies/LEED Certification for a variety of project types including Finance, Higher Education, Healthcare, K12, Science + Technology, Governmental, and Property Development.
· Original member of the firm wide Sustainable Design Initiative founded in 2004.
· Championed the development of the sustainable design expertise of the NC Practice.
· Served as Sustainable Design Expert in Marketing Pursuits, Sales, and Public Relations.
· Served as co-developer of Sustainability Advisory Services as new business line.
· Managed Sustainable Mixed-Use Development Design, Omkar Enclave, in Bangalore, India.
· Managed Sustainability Assessment and Recommendations for US State Department Embassy Master Plan Prototype Project in Burundi, Africa.
· Managed the development of the Energy Reduction and Carbon Footprinting Strategies for the municipality of Greenville, NC
· Developed the Sustainability Design Guidelines for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools.
· Assisted Building Assessment and Recommendations for the National Institutes of Health’s Children’s Inn – NIH has since registered 30+ buildings under LEED-EB.
· Project Architect, LEED-CI Certification, for Bank of America Corporate Center Renovations.
· Project Architect for educational and corporate clients.
· Developed Learning Modules for LEED 2009 for staff training, 23 Modules.
· Taught LEED Accreditation Education & Training sessions for staff, consultants, and clients.
· Provided leadership on LEED Certification, team development, and project documentation.
· Co-chaired a corporate task force for the development and implementation of
Estimating and Evaluation Tool for goal setting a project’s energy design towards fossil fuel free projects.
