Earth Advantage Institute is a leading third party green building resource, think tank, and certification provider for LEED for Homes (Western U.S.), Earth Advantage (Oregon, Washington, California and New England), and ENERGY STAR (Oregon). It has certified over 11,000 Earth Advantage homes in the Northwest and 393 LEED homes in the Western U.S. It also certifies communities and small commercial buildings.

Earth Advantage Institute carries out green building market research and develops metrics for the green building industry that help local governments, professionals and homeowners understand the value proposition behind high performance buildings. The organization conceptualized the Energy Performance Score, a miles-per-gallon style energy and carbon rating for homes, with support from Energy Trust of Oregon.

Its certification services are complemented by a large education department offering both introductory green building classes and expert certification courses for a range of professionals in the green building, real estate, appraisal and lending communities. Its Sustainable Homes Professional course for builders and architects is recognized as one of the leading green building courses by Green Builder Magazine. Earth Advantage Institute has certified more than 700 real estate professionals and recently launched a green appraiser certification series.

The organization's Carbon Advantage program has created a draft standard to help green builders monetize carbon credits, and provides consulting on reduction of carbon emissions in the built environment.
