We design new homes, additions, renovations/remodels. We design homes that use LEED for Homes, EnergyStar HERS, and many other certifying bodies.
We assist clients in designing a home that meets their environmental and health goals while respecting both our client's economic resources as well as the living systems and resources of the environment.
We specifically design homes which are very low energy and net-zero energy use. We make sure the home's materials are from local and renewable sources, and contain minimal or no (depending on client's wishes) harmful chemicals or hazardous gases.
We make homes that optimize space, connect it to the natural world, and are great to live and raise a family in.
We design single-familyhomes, multi-family buildings, apartments, city homes, cabins, and treehouses!
We designed the LEED-NC Gold (pending) Eastonian, Easton, PA. as well as a number of other multi-family and mixed use projects, including the GreenSpace at Madison, Scranton, and Stegmaier Lofts, Wilkes-Barre, PA.
Our single family home designs include a number of adaptive projects in the West Ward of Easton, retrofitting older houses as both super-green and energy-efficient, while providing accommodations for today's modern, urban lifestyle.
We have also completed a number of private commissions for single-family homes which are EnergyStar, such as the BlueRidge home (HERS20), and the Tuscany Hills project (Net-Zero). We presently are in-design on a river home constructed to last multiple generations that, besides being super-efficient, boasts reclaimed timber, and locally sourced reclaimed stone.
Everyone at R+D is well-versed in green building strategies and technologies. More to the point, we are well-versed on how to design a home which is low-tech, and relies on high-tech solutions only as a last resort. Yes, we have a bazillion "smart homes" under our belt. But designing a home which can stay warm in the winter, or cool in the summer, with limited or no "technology" is both a science and an art, and this is what drives our work.
William Dohe AIA LEED AP, Principal, has been LEED accredited since 2001, and leads R+D's green building design.
Our goal is to make the transition from conventional resource-heavy construction, to buildings that heal people, place and planet. We founded R+D in 2001 to create "original.modern.sustainable.architecture." Since our inception, we have found that using the building traditions which have proven themselves in each region and climate, augmented with appropriate new building technology and strategies, leads to the best outcomes in creating homes that will stand the test of time, and help heal our world.
