With an extensive and varied 30-year career in interior design, the last thing Sue Moss, ASID expected was to succumb to "sick building" syndrome. An acclaimed professional—with a college degree in interior design, a Professional Member, past Hawaii President and National Director of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) and other credentials—Moss did not realize she was being exposed to toxins for five years.
Finally diagnosed, her severe allergies took another five years to reverse, but the experience sparked her interest in "green" design materials and building. As a result, she successfully studied for and passed the Leadership in Energy and Environment Design (LEED) exam created by the U.S. Green Building Council and has become a devotee of green awareness. Currently president of Trans-Pacific Design, a hospitality and residential interior design firm based in Hawai'i, Moss builds the values of green-ness and sustainability into her work wherever she goes.
Sue is a member of the Hawai'i Chapter of the USGBC and interested in working on green building projects. she is currently sourcing green furnishings for a 124 room hotel on Oahu and sources green products whenever possible for her residential projects as well.
