What are the best window treatments to block sun on the south or west exposure in summer?

Asked by Lorraine Priceman

I wish to add binds or some other window treatment that will block the summer sun but will allow me to have the benefit of the winter sun in a south facing room. The window is a large picture window with two side windows with sliding openings adjoining it. There is a seating bench built in below the window so long curtains are not a good option. I'm looking for a shade or shutter type covering. Thank you!

I would dare say you are focusing on the wrong side of the glass.

A solar screen would probably be the best option and could easily be removed during the winter period. If you have dealt with previous versions, don't forget they have come a long way since then.

If that doesn't work for you, look for solar shades or wooden shutters that fully operate.
