Question

We think the tiles in our Mom's house may be an asbestos product since it from the 1940s. Can you tile over asbestos tiles?

This is a basement, is a particular flooring better? We want to update the flooring in order to sell the house. What can we do?

Yes you can but you may wish to consider testing first. There are a few products you can use which range from:

  • just overlaying it with plywood / osb,
  • a specialty wood panel with dimples on the bottom in case water does get in,
  • to simply overlaying it with laminate snap lock / rolled goods flooring, or
  • tiling over it after applying a sealer.
