We need a cost-efficient way to reduce EMFs coming through the wall of our baby's nursery.
The EMF meter reads at 4-6, probably due to a refrigerator and washer/dryer. We are going to see if it reduces with more energy efficient appliances but would like to put something up to block EMFs effectively. The other walls in the nursery have windows, so we are unable to move the crib.
Answer
The high EMF reading could be caused by a number of things.
- In a properly wired electrical circuit, the feeder (hot) has a magnetic field which is, in return, canceled out by the neutral's magnetic field. If the grounded (neutral) conductors are not properly wired then they could be carrying the load of other circuits.
- This would create an imbalance in the magnetic fields surrounding the wires.
Before you buy new appliances, it might be cost effective to have a licensed electrician check your electrical system and make sure everything is wired to code.
Try turning off breakers to certain appliances and tracking the EMF reading down to one circuit. This might save you money and time when the electrician is trying to diagnose the problem.
