Question

We are restaining a portion of our kitchen cabinets and the stain won't take. Any suggestions?

We have sanded to the wood and also tried the primer that is used prior to stain after sanding. The cabinets we are installing are about 12 yrs old. (Maple)

I suspect it is a maple melamine on the side of the cabinet that you are trying to refinish. Is the dust from sanding in that area different from other parts you have sanded?

I recommed you go to your local paint store (not big box retailer) and get their advice.
