Replace or cover up sheetrock?

Asked by sandyearle

I have had two different carpenters tell two different things when asked if I needed to replace my sheetrock in the living? One said yes and the other said to put sheetrock over the sheetrock there. How do I know what to do? My husband has no clue either. The sheetrock there now has abig whole, digs, and stains in various places. Thank You- Thank You- Thank You Presently at a stand still.I

While one can put another layer over to cover up a multitude of sins, it sounds like you would be better off spending the few extra dollars & having them remove the original & replacing it. At the same time you can also see & fix any insulation or other issues found.
