Question

My house is on a waterfront facing southeast. I need new DH windows that can withstand strong winds and rain and the sun.

My current winddow are 25 yr old Andersen and have had the sashes replaced. The frames and sills are now rotted. The sun destroys every thing that I have used in the past. Peachtree sliding door lasted 5 years the Andersen Patio doors are slowly deteriating. All the stuff has been well caulked and painted every year. I want someting that will servive the sun and 40 50 mph wind driven rain.

There really is no easy answer as the UV light and mother nature will beat up almost everything. I would look into either fiberglass or an aluminum clad window (wood inside) and make sure you follow the manufacturer's maintenance directions.

Vinyl would be out and while I love the look of wood, with today's wood and the high maintenance associated with it...
