Without knowing the efficiency rating of your heating system and the home ACH leakage rate to the outdoors your heating guy might have a point, however 4 to 6 degree change should not cause increased usage or heating system to struggle if its efficient and properly maintained...Usually changing the thermostat two times a day is enough. For example if I'm at work all day 8+ hrs why would I be maxing out the heat in my home if i wasn't there? Consider purchasing a NEST thermostat and allow it to learn your homes algorithms and compare the energy or gas usage. This is a smart thermostat that you can control with and App. on a Iphone or equivalent and review energy or gas recorded usage. "The less it runs, The less it costs" Regards, Scott
My heating guy says its better to keep thermostat at one temp rather then turning up and down.

Heating man stated to turn down only if gone on vacation. Used tp use programmable thermostat and changed temps 4 x daily. He stated it made the boiler use more fuel by having to heat not only the room but the furniture etc. How can I determine what is best
