Question
Is a resin planter safe for planting vegetables?
I need to use a material that is safe for edibles.
Answer
Melamine formaldehyde resin is approved by the FDA for direct food contact for human consumption. See reference here.
- The cured polymer does not offgas formaldehyde.
- Therefore, resin planters that have had adequate curing time are no risk for growing food.
All this assumes that you trust the US FDA, of course, which some folks don't.
