Question
I would like to use a solar application on my home. I am concerned about hail damage. What should know about panels and hail?
I am remodeling and adding on to an older home in central west Texas. There is plenty of sun and southern exposure. Also, there is plenty of wind, dust and often hail. Should I reconsider the use of solar panels/collectors on the roof?
Answer
All modules are rated for impact and windstorm. You can usually find impact specs for each module product. You may also consider 'thin film' PV which is flexible and will most likely take on little to no damage from impact. Check those specs as well.
Unisolar is the most common thin film.
