I have a 20 year old pool and would like to convert to a solar power pump system, is this a realistic option?

Unfortunately I don't have enough information to legitimately answer this question.

Can you run a pump and other items off of solar - yes. The best way to do this is to bring in an expert that can find the most efficient pool pump for your situation and then design the size of the panels based on how often it needs to run.

You may also consider a salt chlorinator which can help you eliminate the need for chemicals.
