I have a roof leak. The roofer said that the cause is ants. Is this possible?

He said they eat two tiny holes in the shingle. The roof was less than 6 months old and the roofer said it was ants. We had never had a problem with ants and had never had a roof leak prior to the new roof being installed. He said the leak was a random shingle in the center of the roof. He held it up to the sun a showed me 2 pin holes and said this was my problem. Not anything he had done. That I needed to keep the leaves and ants off my roof..

Uhhhh, yeah right. While ants can burrow through and under many materials I've got to say that one takes the cake. And that he could magically find it...

It sounds more like he had some nails out of place. I would suggest finding a professional roofer to check out your roof.

With that, yes you do need to keep your roof clean to prevent water from being trapped and then finding ways inside your home.
