Question
I am looking for fabric to reupholster a couch. Is 100% cotton as durable as synthetic fabrics?
I need something very durable (it has to last) and kid-proof. I am considering a 100% cotton uncut corduroy or a 100% nylon velvet.
Answer
One hundred percent cotton (unless treated with toxic chemicals) is not the most durable upholstery choice.
I would recommend a commercial grade upholstery fabric of recycled content, such as
- Carnegie Fabric's recycled polyester (not what you think) or
- Knoll's Crypton Green.
Tough enough to stand up to kids and pets, but beautiful enough to make the entire room.
