Question
I am converting my oil burner to a high-efficiency gas heating system. What do I do with the oil tank and oil?
Can I sell the oil? Donate it? What are the environmental responsibilities or building code rules for disposing of this oil tank and oil?
Answer
In many cases, the oil tank was installed before the house was built around it. So removal without cutting it up is impossible.
I would recommend starting with the company that will be providing your natural gas. Often, they will conduct removal of the old oil tank free of charge and ensure that all building codes are adhered to in the installation of the new system.
Good luck with your conversion.
