How effective are water heater alarm/shut-off appliances?

We've had a serious water heater leak that affected 5 units in our condo. I'm investigating the alarms available and would appreciate any guidance in this endeavor.

This is a great idea for rental units. Water damage is a big deal, since it can affect things like flooring, ceilings, structure, mold - more that just the water heater.

A possible solution for your Water Heater could be one of the FloodMaster products.

  • The system can be interfaced with your alarm system for remote alert capability.
  • Other areas that may benefit from detection and system shut off are condensate pans or washing machines.
  • I also recommend the wired vs. wireless systems to avoid having to replace batteries.
