Hi Gay,

We are a green builder in the Charlotte area. We will typically accpet jobs within about two hours of Charlotte and would be happy to speak with you.

There is not much of a difference between a green builder and a LEED builder. A green builder could be classified as anyone that pays extra attention to the details of the home in the followng areas -

  • energy efficiency,
  • water conservation,
  • durability,
  • indoor air quality and
  • material selections.

You can build a very green home without getting any certifications on it. Most people prefer to get a certification on their green project.

  • One reason is they all have a third party verification process to ensure the homeowner is getting what they are expecting.
  • Secondly, there is a lot of belief that in the future, having a certification on your home may increase its value.

Certification typically does not increase the cost of the home all that much so is often encouraged.

There are many green building certifications and LEED for Homes is one of the more popular programs.
