Question

Can plaster walls be recycled? I am going to gut re-hab a home.

Asked by Barbara Donahue
Sandy Hook, CT

I live in CT.  I was reading that wall board can be used as a soil amendment. Can plaster walls be recycled?

Answer

If your walls are constructed with lath and plaster construction, you can't necessarily recycle them, but the wood lath could be recycled.

If your walls are gypsum wall board you can certainly recycle them.

  • Connecticut has information on recycling wallboard here.
  • You will still need to pay someone to haul it and take it to the proper recycling center.
