Question
A neighbor sprayed their bathroom tiles with some kind of epoxy paint or acrylic urethane. How toxic is that? Is there an alternative?
This is for an apartment in NYC.
Answer
There are VOC-free epoxy coatings, but they are few and far between. The epoxy is inert once sprayed, but may offgas for a significant amount of time if it's not VOC-free.
If you are interested in using an epoxy product, ask for the VOC content. The closer to zero, the better.
